Tips for Wives - Intimacy in Beauty

3 comments:
I don't have a view like Lori's but Dominica is filled with gorgeous scenery just about everywhere.  I'm going to have to plan a special drive just the two of us to enjoy it some more in a leisurely way.

My(Lori) husband and I are blessed to live out in the country and we have an incredible view (we look out over a valley and across to Mt. Spokane). One of our favorite things to do is just sit together, talk (or not) and just enjoy the view. There is such a majesty about His creation and sharing that is a kind of intimacy.
I know not everyone has a spectacular view just out their window, but nature is all around us, from a nearby walking path to a state park to your backyard on a starry night. Invite your husband to go for a stroll or a drive and enjoy the beauty of creation together.

Nature is the art of God.

Tips for Wives - Time Capsule

2 comments:
Milestone Collection Wedding Time Capsule

What a fabulous idea!

Create an anniversary time capsule. Find a nice sized box and open it every year on your anniversary. Look through and enjoy the contents and perhaps add a few things to it. Be creative. Add a CD of "your song." Add pictures of vacations, love letters, silly cards or tickets to special dates, whatever represents the last year of your marriage together. Let it become a record of your journey through life together.

Love vanquishes time. To lovers, a moment can be eternity, eternity can be the tick of a clock. Mary Parrish

Tips for Wives - The Little Things

No comments:
Such profounds words from Lori in today's tip.

...look for those little things. Because often it is the little things building up over time that make or break a relationship. Little acts of kindness can, over time, create a big attitude of thoughtfulness and care. What little thing can you do today to make your husband's life easier or happier?

When I was young, I admired clever people. Now that I am old, I admire kind people.

Tips for Wives - Midday Meal

No comments:
Impromptu date. I like!

Meet your husband for lunch somewhere - your favorite restaurant or a park bench where you can share a bag lunch. Just have a midday meal together. Make a point of telling him how much you enjoy his company.

We should look for someone to eat and drink with before looking for something to eat and drink...

Tips for Wives - Cyber Prayers

No comments:
So many marriages are falling apart.  Let's take some time today to show love and concern by praying.  There is no distance in prayer.  If you are led to then by all means let those you prayed for specifically know by email, phone call or short note.

We haven't had a cyber prayer meeting in a long time. So, take a minute and pray for marriages. Please pray for wisdom for couples. Perhaps some intimacy and friendship too. Pray for healing and any help they might need. Pray for those married to unbelievers or those struggling because of separation (military, business, marriage difficulties, etc.). Let's lift each other up to the One who can do amazing things.

More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of.

Tips for Wives - Cuddle

No comments:
Oooh! I love this one!!!

When you have the opportunity to sleep in, make it a leisurely morning with lots of snuggling and warm love making.

Caresses, expressions of one sort or another, are necessary to the life of the affections as leaves are to the life of a tree. If they are wholly restrained, love will die at the roots.

Tips for Wives - Expose Yourself

No comments:
The Bible says it this way - He who walks with wise men will be wise but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.  Proverbs 13:20

Seth Godin had an interesting blog post that basically said, "what you expose yourself to will likely shape who you become." Applied to marriage, the concept holds. If you expose yourself to people who talk down about their spouses or don't invest time in their family and marriage, it will rub off on you, to the detriment of your marriage. If, on the other hand, you expose yourself to people who speak well of their spouse, invest time in their family and marriage or are just overall marriage friendly, it will encourage you and help you grow in your marriage relationship.

You don't have to be a "person of influence" to be influential. In fact, the most influential people in my life are probably not even aware of the things they've taught me.

Tips For Wives - Help Others as a Couple

No comments:
I enjoy working together with my husband on different things.  Sometimes we share the same views, sometimes we don't but working together strengthens the bond between us.  Read on as Lori shares some practical ways she and her husband have worked together.

My(Lori) husband and I support a handful of ministries financially and, when possible, we like to support with our time and effort as well. We've helped with fundraisers, we've helped coordinate conferences, and done everything from wiping down tables to speaking. It's been fun to work side by side helping folks and ministries that we believe in.

I encourage y'all to do likewise. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just be an extra hand. The couple time is great for your marriage and you're helping others as well.

I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.

Tips For Wives - Some Wives Need Help Too

No comments:
This is also a challenge for wives as well.

Yesterday's tip offered some resources where guys and porn are concerned. Several folks have commented that gals can have a problem with pornography as well. One book that addresses this is No Stones.  There is also a ministry called Dirty Girls Ministries.  Don't let the name put you off.  They have real ministry and a new bulletin board for discussion and encouragement.  And, again, if anyone knows of other women specific ministries, please leave a comment so that we can offer help to our sisters who are struggling with porn.

Tips For Wives - Husbands and Porn

No comments:
Today's tip touches on a very present challenge in many marriages today.

Julie Sibert of Intimacy in Marriage linked to a great article on her Facebook page. The article, Reliance on God Leads to Healing from Porn, addresses the stresses of being married to someone with porn issues. This is unfortunately a common problem, so I thought I would pass on this resource. Please know that you are not alone and that there is help and encouragement. My(Lori) favorite book about this issue is False Intimacy and my(Lori) favorite ministry is BeBroken.com. If you know of any other good resources, please add a comment to this tip. Let's get the word out so that marriages can heal.

Another interesting article from the perspective of the husband is Personal Story: Pornography and Marriage (an interview of Stu Gray on LifeGems4Marriage).

Tips for Wives - Have Some Paper Fun

2 comments:
I love this one!  Let's have fun in our marriages!

Here's an idea for a fun, and possibly sexy, game. Get some slips of paper and divide them into two piles. On the slips in one pile write different "body parts." On the other slips write "action" words, like "kiss," "tickle," or "stroke." Then invite your husband to play. Take a slip from each pile and direct the "action" toward the "body part." Your choice of words can make the game sillier or sexier. Keep in mind your husband's comfort zone and his idea of what is fun, romantic and/or sexual. (As a variation, you could leave two slips of paper on his pillow each night for a week.)

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

Tips for Wives - Share Your Passions

No comments:
Shared passions for causes outside of the marriage binds hearts together.

Do you or your husband have a cause? Something that just burns in your heart? Support your husband's passions and invite him into yours. They are the substance of life and create the possibility of miracles.

Tips for Wives - Write a Napkin Note

No comments:
Little things here and there help keep the marriage interesting.

...many restaurants have paper napkins. Slip a pen from your purse and write a love note on your napkin. When your husband is not looking, swap your napkin out with his.

Sometimes nothing speaks louder than a silent word written on a piece of paper.

Tips For Wives - As You Wish

No comments:
Oh boy! What husband wouldn't want something like that?

Give your husband three bedroom wishes. You have the right to decline if it conflicts with personal beliefs, if it would be uncomfortable or painful, etc, but do your best to fulfill his dreams.

"As you wish" ... of course what he really meant was "I love you."

Tips For Wives - He Kissed Her In The Chicken Coop

No comments:
It's amazing the experiences that Lori has with her husband. A true example of a generous marriage in action. Read on as she shares yet another experience with a lesson.

My(Lori) husband kissed me in the chicken coop. I just had to say that because I told my husband I was going to tell all the generous wives about it. :) Actually it does speak to something that I think is important in a marriage.

My(Lori) husband, son and friend are building a chicken coop for 12 cute little baby chicks that the friend's wife and I are going to tend (I hope they survive us). Today my husband gave me the tour of their project and, being alone in that 8x8 box, decided that a soon-to-be chicken coop was just the place for a kiss. Truthfully, he is a hopeless romantic, so just about anywhere is a good place to kiss. And, isn't that the thing of it, lots of little bits of physical intimacy build a marriage. It doesn't have to much or fancy, just a kiss, a pat, a hug ... often.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Tips For Wives - Sweetness & Games

3 comments:
Read on as Lori shares with us something she did to make her marriage sweeter.

Take the idea behind this tip and bless your husband. Hide and seek games are fun and little romantic/sexual activities are always appreciated by husbands.

Last year, I(Lori) bought an Easter basket, a little green grass and a dozen plastic Easter eggs (I think I got them almost free with a couple of coupons). Anyway, I wrote out on paper 12 different "sexually" stimulating activities (all very tasteful). For example, "Write a love letter", "Passionately kiss for 2 minutes", etc. Then, I put each of the small pieces of paper in an Easter egg and when my husband and I had an afternoon alone, I had him go on an Easter egg hunt. Each time he opened an egg, we engaged in the activity. Need I say more? I think it was his favorite holiday activity. :)
