My husband donates blood on a regular basis. I haven't, largely because I fight anemia, but I've been a good girl about taking iron and now my numbers are good enough that they like my blood too. :) So this last week I started giving blood as well.
Aside from doing something good for others (which is always a plus), it's one more thing that my husband and I can do together. We laugh and talk with folks as we go through the process and walk off with matching heart stickers (though my husband is a total show off - he's a good bleeder and whizzes through the process, while they're still trying to figure out where my veins are)
You might not be able to give blood, but there are any number of ways you can join your husband in being generous or kind to others. All you need to do is find something that you and your husband are both comfortable with and go for it. Help a single mom with her yard. Babysit kids so that your friends can have a date. Invite an older couple out for dinner. Help with a church project.
The human being who lives only for himself finally reaps nothing but unhappiness. Selfishness corrodes. Unselfishness ennobles, satisfies. Don't put off the joy derivable from doing helpful, kindly things for others. B.C. Forbes

Happy Saturday Sharefest
Hi Susan
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by during the Sharefest!
Hi Dreamgirl
ReplyDeleteYou are so right! It does make you more connected as a couple when you do things together. I'll be by to check out your blogs.
It is great that you and your hubby are donating blood. Bryan does that as often as he can, but I have never done it.
ReplyDeleteWe do church projects together though. We will be taking a Mission trip to Kentucky in Sept. and we have been working on the donations at church together with a group of other members.
Thanks for asking about me. I am feeling better. I am still having some trouble with one of my legs. It has a large knot, but otherwise I am doing well. Thank you for your prayers. I appreciate them so much!
Friend Hubby and I have always enjoyed ministering together, whether it is singing together, praying for someone together, or serving in some capacity. We are currently raising my sister's two children (besides our own 3) and taking care of my aging parents together. Nothing in the world is like being one in the spirit with your soulmate.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Hi Pam
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful that you and your hubby are doing those things together. But one word of disclaimer though - it's Lori sharing her experience of donating blood not me:)
I'm glad that you are feeling better. I'll be praying for that knot to completely disappear.
Hi Donalacasa
Awesome! Not many people can claim your experience. Treasure it my sister. Treasure it, don't ever take it for granted. Others are looking on and being blessed so continue.
