Every child deserves a great summer

For over a hundred years, every summer the Fresh Air Fund has given free summer vacations to over 1 million children from low income communities in New York City. Here's a video of testimony from one such child:

Sometimes the children enjoy a two week stay at a volunteer host family or they stay at one of the Fresh Air Fund Camps. The Fresh Air Fund is a not-for-profit organization and operates on donations. You can donate any amount online now which will go a long way toward helping meet their needs.

If you live in the New York area or close enough and would like to help raise funds you can participate in the world class NYC Half-Marathon. To participate you can register for the Fresh Air Fund half-marathon here.

Here's a sampling of the activities that these children enjoy: Playing in the backyard, laughing in the sunshine, catching fireflies, riding bicycles, learning to swim, running barefoot through the grass, gazing at the stars on moonlit nights, building sandcastles, making new friends.

Here's a less than 4 minute video giving an example of one family and a child they hosted:

Host families are usually from the suburbs or small towns. The size, ethnicity and backgrounds vary but have one thing in common - the desire to give city children a unique summer experience by opening their hearts and homes for two weeks.
