Organic Farming In Dominica

I found this video while looking at posts on Suncooked Cuisine, our featured Spotlight On Health blog earlier this week.

I am so proud of my country Dominica for the strides that we are making to become a healthier nation. More and more farmers are becoming organic and that can only mean well for us as we learn to eat better food. Watch this short video (less than 3 minutes).

While looking at related videos on Youtube I found this other video where a gentleman gives a tour of his farm and shows the many crops he cultivates. Crops like cocoa, plantains, dasheen, corn etc. are among those he shows. Take a look:

Hope you enjoyed this little piece of my homeland.

  1. Oh yes, it is wonderful that the farmers are getting with the program.
Dominica is a wonderful place to live if you're the type of person that
enjoys natural surroundings like I do. We have a friend of my husband's
from Dominica who lives in Sweden. What does your country look like?

  2. It's wonderful that more farmers are becoming organic. To a Swede like me your home country looks very exotic. It must be a great place to live in.

  3. They used to refer to my country as the last wilderness of Europe. We have lots of open space and generous laws on using the natural land. We are allowed to pick berries, mushrooms, and go hiking even on private land. As long as it is not farmed land or someone's backyard. But if I see a nice lake I am allowed to swim even if it belongs to someone else.

The fact that I can stop anywhere along the road and decide to pick berries or walk in the woods is what I missed the most about Sweden. We have a long coast line, but we have long and dark winters with not overly warm summers. It is a nice country, but I have gotten used to more freedom living abroad.

  4. It sounds nice. Not sure I would enjoy the long winters and slightly warm
summers since I'm so used to it being warm most of the time here but just
for visiting I think I'll like it.
