Tips for Wives - Leave and Cleave

Wise words from Lori in today's tip. We would do well to listen to wise teachers and put into practice what we learn. It is in doing so that we grow and experience success not only in our marriages but in other areas of life as well.

...God is very clear - when we marry, we LEAVE our home of origin and CLEAVE to our spouse, creating a new family and home. This, of course, does not mean that we stop loving or respecting our parents, it just means that our spouse and our marriage relationship takes precedence over any other relationships, even those we have with parents or other family members.

In practical terms, it means that we take into consideration what is good for our spouse, that we stand up for our spouse if a family member gets out of line, and we don't ask our spouse to be someone they are not at family gatherings. And, I hope it goes without saying, we don't treat our spouse differently in front of our family than at other times.

I strongly encourage you to highly value your husband and your marriage during the coming year.

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, ad they shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:24 NKJV

  1. Isn't this for men to cleave to their wives. The verse specifically states "...man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife..."? Just seems like that to me.
