Last week as we discussed EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS I asked you 5 questions to help prepare you for an emergency situation. As promised, here are the other 5. The best time to prepare for an emergency is before it happens.
Here are the other 5:
6. Do you keep a stash of cash for emergencies? Do you have it in a place where you can easily grab it and go. You may not be able to use an ATM in the event of a power outage. Does your car always have a half a tank of gas?
7. Do you have raincoats, boots, caps/hats in case it’s rainy weather at the time you may have to leave? If you have babies do you have diapers? What about your children’s favorite blanket, stuffed animal or toy? What about a game or deck of cards to keep you or them occupied and calm?
8. Do you have all the information you will need - from phone numbers and insurance numbers to important dates in a planner/calendar or some sort of journal? Calendars/planners/journals are small and can easily be taken with you.
9. For women who still have that time of the month – do you have an extra box/pkt of your preferred protection? It may be hard to find if you have been evacuated and at a shelter. Don’t forget medication for cramps too.
10. Are your cell phones always charged up? Do you have an extra battery or charger in your car? Do you have a battery powered radio and plenty of batteries for it?
One of the most important things to have is a clear calm head. Being prepared using these 10 areas as a guideline will keep you calm. Being at peace will make things less stressful. Your children need to see you calm and collected, it will help keep them calm too.
I hope these were of help to you. These questions are mind joggers to get you thinking about how to be better prepared for emergency situations. Other things may come to your mind that pertain to your particular lifestyle. Write them down and take care of them in a timely manner. You deserve peace of mind! You deserve to have your mind free to focus on the more important things in life!
